145 Myanmar Migrants Detained in Phitsanulok During Major Human Smuggling Crackdown

Authorities in Phitsanulok Province launched an intensive overnight operation against a major human smuggling network transporting workers to Central Thailand, resulting in the arrest of 145 Myanmar migrants and the seizure of 10 vehicles.
Early Friday morning, police acted on intelligence that a smuggling convoy planned to traverse Highway 11. Upon encountering a police checkpoint, the convoy attempted to flee, prompting a high-speed pursuit. Several individuals abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot into nearby forests and fields before being apprehended.
The 145 detainees, mostly aged between 18 and 23, reportedly entered Thailand through Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province, using temporary border passes.
According to police reports, the drivers of all 10 seized vehicles were also Myanmar nationals. The drivers confessed to receiving approximately 20,000 THB per migrant for the transport service.
Investigations revealed that the group intended to stop briefly in Phitsanulok before continuing to Bangkok and other central provinces, following GPS coordinates provided by labor brokers.
The Governor of Phitsanulok stated that all detainees have been provided with food and basic necessities. They are scheduled to appear in court on Saturday to face charges for illegal entry into the country.
