Israel announced on Wednesday that a Gaza airstrike on Tuesday successfully eliminated Mohammed Oda, the newly appointed chief of the Hamas military wing, just weeks after his predecessor was killed in a similar strike.
“Yesterday, the leader of the military wing of the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip was successfully eliminated and sent to join his counterparts in hell,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated. Hamas has not yet issued any official response regarding the matter.
“I congratulate the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency for executing this brilliant operation on behalf of the Prime Minister and myself,” Minister Katz wrote on social media platform X.
He added, “We promised to eliminate anyone who led the October 7 massacre, and we are fulfilling that promise. All of them are marked for death, wherever they may be.”
Following the announcement of Tuesday’s strike, a joint statement issued by Minister Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Oda had served as the chief of Hamas intelligence during the October 7 massacre. He was appointed just over a week ago to succeed Ezzateddeen Al-Haddad, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on May 15.
“Oda was responsible for the killing, kidnapping, and wounding of numerous Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers,” Katz and Netanyahu stated.
Following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to systematically eliminate the masterminds behind the operation. According to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures, that attack resulted in the deaths of 1,221 people.
Meanwhile, Israel’s retaliatory military campaign in Gaza has killed at least 72,803 people, according to figures from the Hamas-run health ministry.
Israel has previously assassinated Ismail Haniyeh, the former political leader of Hamas, and Yahya Sinwar, the Gaza chief widely believed to be the primary architect of the October 7 attacks.
Additionally, Israel has eliminated Mohammed Deif, the veteran commander of the Hamas military wing known as the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, and Mohammed Sinwar, who assumed leadership in Gaza following the death of his brother, Yahya Sinwar.
Israeli operations have also targeted Hamas operatives inside Lebanon, alongside senior military commanders of their ally, the Iran-backed group Hezbollah, including its former leader Hassan Nasrallah.
