Arne Slot Insists He Never Contemplated Stepping Down as Liverpool Manager

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has strongly dismissed any suggestions of resigning, asserting that he has never considered leaving his post despite facing heavy criticism during a challenging Premier League title defense.
Although Slot has faced jeers from the Anfield crowd on multiple occasions this season, Liverpool can officially secure Champions League qualification for next season with a victory in their upcoming match against Aston Villa on Friday night. The 47-year-old Dutchman made it clear that he fully expects to lead the club next season, noting that handling intense scrutiny has been one of the biggest takeaways of the current campaign.
When asked if the thought of stepping down had ever crossed his mind, Slot responded firmly: “I have always wanted to carry on and I have never once thought what you are suggesting because, as I have said many times, I think this club is in a much better place next season than this.”
He further shared his perspective on the ongoing pressure: “I have been used to criticism throughout my playing and managing career. If you cannot handle the ups and downs of criticism, you can never manage a club like Liverpool. What I have learned from this season is that I can handle it quite well.”
Reiterating his commitment to the club’s future, Slot added: “I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season. First of all, I am contracted to this club and second of all, from all the talks we are having, that is my take on it.”
Regarding squad availability for the Aston Villa clash, recent updates indicate that Mohamed Salah could return to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury, though it remains uncertain if he will start. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Florian Wirtz are still facing a race against time to be fit for selection.
