U Yee Mon, the Union Minister for Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG), has pledged to rectify ethical lapses and disciplinary gaps that occurred within the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) over the past five years of the revolution. This statement was included in his message to the public marking the 5th anniversary of the founding of the PDF.
“Throughout our five-year journey, while there have been successes, we will not turn a blind eye to the mistakes and shortcomings in certain regions that have, to some extent, damaged public trust due to gaps in military experience and ethical oversight. The Ministry of Defense is closely analyzing these issues and is taking effective corrective actions. To ensure a stronger command structure and strict adherence to military codes of conduct, we will redouble our efforts to transform into a disciplined force that truly protects the revolutionary public,” the Defense Minister stated in his message.
Regarding the military situation on the ground, the Minister noted that the strategic temporary withdrawal from certain captured towns is a “natural aspect of warfare.” He informed the public that the NUG will continue to implement a flexible “People’s War Strategy” while strengthening ties with ethnic armed revolutionary allies.
In his message, U Yee Mon emphasized that the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives and limbs for the success of the Spring Revolution will never be forgotten. He also paid high tribute to the profound sacrifices of comrades currently braving various hardships on the frontlines.
He further highlighted that the transformation from unarmed protests into the modern, armed People’s Defense Forces (PDF) stands as a historic achievement of the people’s struggle.
The Defense Minister concluded by urging the revolutionary public not to lose heart over current situations and to continue working together with unwavering perseverance until the final goals of the revolution are achieved.
