Iran Responds to U.S. Ceasefire Proposal via Pakistan

May 10, 2026 | Burma Independent Voice

Iran has delivered its response to a U.S.-led ceasefire proposal through Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

The initial phase of the proposal focuses on a complete cessation of hostilities. In its response, Tehran reportedly emphasized the necessity of ensuring “maritime security” within the Persian Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier this week, the U.S. government submitted a 14-point proposal to Iran. Key demands include a commitment from Iran to forgo nuclear weapons production, a 12-year moratorium on uranium enrichment, and the transfer of its existing enriched uranium stockpiles. In exchange, the United States would implement a phased lifting of economic sanctions, unfreeze Iranian assets, and end the naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Pakistani officials confirmed they have already forwarded Iran’s response to Washington. The ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has severely impacted both the global economy and Pakistan’s domestic financial stability, making a swift resolution a high priority for Islamabad.

“With fuel prices skyrocketing and the economy struggling, Pakistan’s unique position—maintaining good relations with both Tehran and the Trump administration—could prove pivotal,” an Islamabad-based Al Jazeera correspondent noted. “The U.S. reaction in the coming days will be the deciding factor for the next steps.”
